We check your flight
Your booking is tied to the flight number, not the clock. Delayed in Auckland? The driver is re-timed before you have boarded. Still send us a quick message about any change — a double confirmation, and essential for domestic flights.
Driver already waiting
The driver is outside the terminal exit doors 15 minutes before scheduled landing with a printed sign showing the lead passenger’s name or the accommodation’s name.
Immigration & bags
Tonga’s arrival card, then immigration, then baggage. Biosecurity checks food and outdoor gear — declare it, it is quick.
Walk past the touts
Curbside “porters” and unmetered taxis work the door. Look for your name on our sign just outside it: nod, keep walking, we take the bags.
At your accommodation
Air-con on, water in the door. On arrival you and your accommodation receive a journey summary with times and the driver’s details.

What a taxi from Fua’amotu actually costs
Airport taxis in Tonga are unmetered. Travel guides put the fare to Nuku’alofa at $22–35 — the number depends on the driver, the hour and how tired you look.
Our transfer to Nuku’alofa is $45 for one passenger, fixed, with a named driver waiting at the exit doors, your flight tracked, a receipt, and someone to call. At 11 p.m. with two children and four bags, that is the difference.
Every extra passenger adds $10 — a family of four rides together for $75, in a vehicle sized to the group, booked and paid before you fly.

International
One hall, one exit
Arrivals and departures share a single terminal. The exit from customs opens straight onto the forecourt. Your driver is waiting just outside that door, sign up.
Domestic
Separate terminal, 2 km away
Lulutai flights to Vava’u, Ha’apai and ‘Eua use the domestic terminal down the road. Connecting? Tell us both flights and we do the terminal hop.
Money
ATM and forex are inside
There is an ATM and a currency counter in the terminal, open for every international flight, day or night. You do not need Tongan pa’anga for our transfer — it is paid before you land.
Distance
21 km to Nuku’alofa
30–50 minutes on a two-lane sealed road through villages with a 50 km/h limit, depending on traffic and where in town you are staying. Ha’atafu on the west coast is 45–55 minutes.
Sunday
Tonga rests on Sunday
Shops and most restaurants are closed by law. Sunday arrivals: tell us and we add a supermarket stop on Saturday night’s run or advise your host.
Departures
Be there 2.5 h before
International check-in closes early and the road is unlit. We recommend a pickup 2.5 hours before departure and book the driver to arrive 5 minutes early.

Before you fly
Where exactly is the driver?
Outside the terminal, right at the airport exit doors, holding a printed sign with the lead passenger’s name or your accommodation’s name. Domestic arrivals: outside the domestic terminal door. You receive the driver’s name and mobile the day before.
My flight is delayed or diverted.
We track international flight numbers and re-time the driver to actual landing. Please still message us the delay or change as a double confirmation — especially on domestic flights, which we cannot track. If your flight is cancelled and you rebook to another day, send us the new flight and we move the booking free of charge.
How is payment taken?
Online card checkout on this site, in USD. You receive a booking reference (TAT-xxxx) and confirmation by email immediately, and the driver’s name and mobile the day before travel.
Cancellations and changes
All bookings are final and non-refundable once paid, whatever the reason. What we do instead: if your airline delays, cancels or reschedules, we move your transfer to the new flight or date at no charge — message us the new flight number. Name changes are free. This keeps the price fixed and the driver guaranteed for every booking.
Child seats, wheelchairs, surfboards?
Child seats and boosters are free — say the ages. Folding wheelchairs are carried in the van at no charge. Surfboards, dive gear and bikes need the van: tell us in the booking and we send the right vehicle.
